To what extent was Lincoln "uncompromising"?  To what extent was Thaddeus Stevens (leader of the Radical Republicans) "uncompromising"?  What were they willing to compromise on?  What were they not willing to compromise on? - Lincoln was "uncompromising" because he decided that getting the votes needed to pass the 13th Amendment needed to be at the top of his priorities, hoping that good things would come from it in terms of the Civil War. Thaddeus Stevens was "uncompromising" because he was a Republican Radical, meaning he didn't want to change his views at all towards slavery and racial equality.
